Danube Cleanup

Danube cleanup

On Saturday, August 24, about twenty people who care about the environment met up to clean up their surroundings on the international cleanup event, the Danube Cleanup. The Danube creates a huge reservoir of drinking water in our territory, not to mention being home to various species of animals and plants, and therefore it must be protected so that this water supply is not contaminated.

On Saturday, we got rid the Danube bank, but also the adjacent woods, of garbage and after an hour and a half we collected more sacks of waste than we expected. Among the collected waste, which consisted mainly of paper, plastic and glass, there were also unexpected objects such as mobile phone or sunglasses. Harvesting went smoothly and quickly, thanks to the great group of different people, old or young, all of them were in a good mood.

Afternoon we moved to Radvaň nad Dunajom, where even in a smaller numbers we did a great nature-friendly work. We went just near, on the banks of the Danube, where we again found a lot of garbage and filled many bags.

We are pleased that also new people came, that they are interested in nature protection, their health and clean surroundings, because such a support is crucial in the fight against climate change.

The Danube Cleanup event took place simultaneously in several places and abroad: Vienna, Bratislava, Komárno, Radvaň nad Dunajom, Budapest and the event was also supported by cities that do not lie directly by the Danube, namely Senec and Senica.

The next event related to garbage collection and cleanup will take place September 21, 2019, when it will be World Cleanup Day. We will also choose a suitable place that deserves to be clean, and we would like to invite everyone who wants to join us in the cleansing of the environment.
