Psychology of health

According to Schwarzer(1992) and Křivohlavý (2001) is the health psychology a special psychological discipline that is focused on mentally relatively healthy people, to prevent health problems, maintaining a good state of health, strengthening and promoting health, health compaction, and encouragement of mentalhealth.

It deals with the role of psychological factors by maintaining good health, by preventing diseases, coping with negative health conditions- emotions, by providing psychological support to the patient during the healing process, and to help handlingthe symptoms of a chronic disease. The most for their own health people can do only themselves. Civilizational development is closely linked to the health of the population. Changes have occurred, without changes there is no development, and the development of society and people is affected by different factors.

Determinants affecting the health status, which impact the demographic changes and environmental status, are the genetic factors, the level of health care, the environment (environmental, social, labor, economical), and the way of life.

The development showed us that an improvement is not possible without an active involvement of the population itself, improving the situations concerning civilizational diseases, especially in areas related to the lifestyle such cardiovascular diseases, cancer, injuries, chronic diseases, mental disorders, etc..
The developments also highlight the need to strengthen the areas which include health promotion, prevention and active participation-interaction of the individual
