RIVER CLEAN UP VIENNA - CLEAN DANUBE EXPERIENCE
RIVER CLEAN UP VIENNA - CLEAN DANUBE EXPERIENCE
Thanks to the athletes WRKD , the global River Cleanup initiative also took place in Vienna.
River Cleanup is an activity that connects.
On September 24th, as a successful WRK team, we represented and supported one of the worlds’ largest environmental protection activities, the international River Cleanup, in cooperation with the Human Health Institute n.o.
As part of this event, we not only focused on cleaning the environment, but also on ourselves.
We have networked with various organizations to support the idea of #rivercleanupvienna in water sports, and together we can point out the importance of environmental protection and sustainability.
One of the goals is to show that families, the public and athletes care about a clean environment and appreciate it when they can train in a clean environment. Every rower wants to train in a clean and safe environment and is proud when they can contribute to it. WRK Donau athletes are happy to take responsibility for fostering a respectful, inclusive and sustainable culture. The main idea of the River Cleanup Vienna initiative is to raise awareness of the benefits of implementing ecological behaviour in leisure and sport. Respect for the environment is one of the most important values the club possesses. They strive to adapt the topics of environmental protection and sustainability in everyday life and automatically separate all garbage in separate containers.
Dr. Josef Bertagnoli: ,,Our goal is not only to educate children to enjoy sports, but also to familiarise them with the core values of the company and the values of the WRKD Club. Ethical behaviour, respect, safety and a healthy lifestyle are the focus for the long-term successful functioning of the company. Respect for ethics, a responsible approach to sport and the environment is an expression of responsibility towards everyone.”
Dr. Erika Jung, MBA: ,,Our common goal is to raise environmental awareness and promote a sense of responsibility in children and young people; To inform the public that every activity in nature keeps people healthy, prolongs human life, and at the same time harms the environment. It is therefore our duty as a society and conserve our resources and to use them responsibly to ensure a healthy future for us and future generations.”
Through joint efforts, we managed to collect dozens of garbage bags.
We are convinced that sport, thanks to its internationality, which bridges ethical and cultural differences, is particularly well suited to bringing people of all ages together and strengthening the feeling of togetherness in the community.
Exactly such activities move society towards zero waste, sustainability and a healthy future.
