Lipno welcomed us on Friday with warm, summer weather, but the next day, the race day a chilly autumn came with maximum of 13 °C. Some people said, that this is the ideal weather for the race, but I live in the warmest area of the Slovakia and I’m used to higher temperatures. For me, ideal would be by at least 10 degrees higher.
And the weather was what made the race most difficult. It wasn’t that horrible, I was able to warm up properly, but when the wind blew, it was very uncomfortable.
I witnessed taking one racer with hypothermia away and I was afraid it could happen to me as well. I coughed and blew my nose a lot. Organizers took us four times in the water, once right after the start, so we ran the whole track in wet shoes. The track itself wasn’t difficult, I think it was one of the easier Beasts, but I felt the most exhausted after it. I wanted to complete it under 9 hours, which was my personal limit I set before the race, so I was little in hurry. Ascents were also not that complicated, but I think we went through every ski slope on that hill.
Some racers, especially female racers, complained about some obstacles, mainly about the weight of the bag on Hercules hoist. Maybe I just picked the right bag, because this obstacle didn’t cause me bigger problems than usual.
The toughest for me were: atlas carry, plate drag and bucket carry, where I pulled the bucket with gravel on the ground for the whole second half of the circuit.
I simply couldn’t carry it in front of my chest, it was too heavy, despite the fact that the referee allowed me to fill the bucket only in half. Of course, the most beautiful obstacle was the treetop walkway, a lookout tower, from which there were beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The only bad thing about this was the cold wind up there. From this point we ran only downwards to the festival area. I didn’t overcome only two obstacles: the traverse wall and the spear throw again. I’m glad that even with my aching shoulder I was able to pass fairly easily the monkey bar, multi rig or twister.
The fact that the race wasn’t that difficult doesn’t matter at all, I don’t take it as a negative experience, rather the opposite. The surrounding nature was very nice, obstacles were varied and well-spaced in my opinion.
I personally bothered only about the cold weather. I consider the most positive experience meeting with a lot of friends (also from FB who I haven’t met before). Of course, I’m very grateful for every kind of encouragement and support I’ve got on the track.
The Beast medal, my first multitrifecta and also Czech regional trifecta (patch) were waiting for me in the finish. I accomplished what I planned in the beginning of this year and I’m ready for new challenges.
